High Speed Wheeled Amphibians, A Concept Study

The results of a concept design study of high-speed wheeled amphibious vehicles originally conducted in 1956-1959 are now presented as Volume 1 of a two-volume study. The basic technical and operational problems of high water speed are examined. Six basic concepts are presented to exemplify potential mechanical solutions. Five concepts are planing hull types with retractable wheels; one example is based on the vehicle train concept.
